Title   Little Beirut and Going Home       Description   'Little Beirut' is the colloquial name attached to a local housing estate that has been allowed to fall into a derelict state - causing misery for the residents. Most have now been rehoused but children and teenagers still hang around and play in those neglected surroundings. My work is a response to the community who despite these conditions have managed to bring up their families and call the place home. My images are a combination of drawings, silhouettes, projections and photographs. They are a visual response to conversations and comments recorded from the residents of the estate. Many of the quotes are taken from the project on 'home' done by children who lived there. Others from the interviews I conducted on the estate with tenants who have moved into their new housing and were reflecting on how life used to be when they lived in the old flats.
