Description

My work embodies displacement and memory. I am engaged with the concept of the materiality itself being a manifestation of absence vis-a-vis the 'presence' indicates the 'absence'.

In contemporary practice it is recognised that the use of clothing in sculpture evokes memory and loss. By petrifying these elements they are prevented from moving forward to a destination or retreating back to their original state or owner. This concept is further resonated in the title 'Untitled'.

Using the negative space of house moving containers I constructed 30 unique sculptures from clothing laminated with polyester resin.

Thanks   To my husband Jim for encouraging me to fulfill my dream and supporting me throughout. My children, Grainne & Conor, promise - no more takeaways.

A very special thank you to Adrian O'Connell for the support and encouragement I received from him throughout 4th year and from whom I have learned so much. Many thanks to Cecily Brennan, Hester Scott, Sinead Hogan and Anna Colford at IADT for their support and help over the years and last but certainly not least many thanks to Kathleen Walsh who went beyond the call of duty on every occasion to give me the help and technical support I needed to realise my projects.

Thank you to Eoin O'Donovan, General Manager of Textile Recycling Limited for his help and kindness.
